Here’s our take on upma, a well-known South Indian breakfast! 🇮🇳🥣 Note: Those with nut allergies can remove the peanuts.

👥 Serves 4

 

Ingredients

  • Coarse Semolina (1 cup)

  • Oil (4 tbsp)

  • Black Mustard Seeds (1 tsp)

  • Peanuts (1 handful)

  • Green Chillies (2 chopped)

  • Curry Leaves (6-7)

  • Green Peas (1/2 cup)

  • Water (2 1/2 cups)

  • Lemon Juice (1 tsp)

  • Salt (to taste)

  • Fresh Coriander (2 tbsp chopped)

  • Raisins or Sultanas (1 handful)

 

Preparation

  1. Boil the green peas in 1 1/4 cup of water and drain once done

 

Method

  1. Heat oil in a saucepan (add one mustard seed to the oil, if it cracks it is ready)

  2. Add the remaining mustard seeds

  3. Add curry leaves and chopped chillies then stir on low heat for 1 minute

  4. Add peanuts and stir for 1 minute

  5. Add semolina and stir fry on medium heat till golden brown

  6. Add sultanas and stir for 2 minutes

  7. Add green peas with 1/2 cup of water

  8. Add lemon juice

  9. Cover for 2 minutes and allow semolina to absorb the water

Low in: Sugar.
